My Life Between Silicon Valley and Japan - 「やめること」を先に考えよう

さあ来年は何を始めようか。そう考えるのではなく「何をやめるか」を先に決めよう。それも自分にとってかなり重要な何かを「やめること」。
それが「来年の抱負」「今年の抱負」を真に意味のあるものにするための最重要ポイントだと思う。新しく始める「何か」を決めるだけでは、できない場合がほとんどだ。

確かにその通りですよね。これを踏まえてビジネスにおける来年の抱負を考えてみました。

  1. 仕事でプログラミングをする時間をなくし、代わりに新しいテクノロジーやサービスの全体的にキャッチアップして戦略的思考をできるようにします。
  2. 今年は、「ローマ人の物語」「銃・病原菌・鉄」「東京アンダーワールド」「坂の上の雲」などを読んで、小説などで歴史を知ることが戦略を考える上で重要だと思うようになりました。ビジネス書をできるだけ減らして、小説などを読む時間を増やします。できれば久しぶりに哲学にも手を出したいと思っています。
  3. RSSをビジネスとプライベートに分けて日中はビジネスのみを見るようにし、さらに英語圏のテクノロジー＆ビジネスのブログを拡充します。今までは一緒になっていて、どうしても後回しになりがちだったのですが、ここ数日分けてみたら結構スムーズになりました。
  4. テレビを持たない（見ない）、日経ビジネス以外の雑誌・新聞をあまり読まない、あまり本屋に行かない、を継続します。

逆に、プライベートでは、あまり効率を考えすぎないようにしたいと思っています。

テレビはともかく、

ってのは周囲に雑誌や新聞をちゃんとヲッチしている人を置いたほうがいいと思うな。
なんだかんだいっても、ビジネスをやっていく上で、こうしたメディアとうまく付き合っていかなくちゃいけないし。
