Demand Mediaだが、Rosenblattは自ら「新しいメディア企業（"new-media" compnay）と称するこの会社の資金として、すでに2億ドルを超える金額を集めており、同社の評価額は現在MySpaceの売却額にほぼ相当する5.8億ドルレベルまで達しているという。
（中略）「Rosenblattはこの資金を使って、ニッチなネット企業を買収する計画だ」との記述があり、またRosenblattの答えのなかには「ニッチなコンテンツに特化した『バーティカル』サイトを買収した上で、それに独自のニューメディアツールを追加することで、このバーティカルサイトを、成長の早いＣＧＭに焦点を絞ったコミュニティ・バーティカルに変身させる。こうしたサイトには他にはない、とても面白く常に更新されたコンテンツがある（それがニッチ番組を集めたケーブルテレビ局との違いだ）」との説明もある。
MySpace元会長Rosenblattの新会社Demand Mediaについて。この記事では「具体的なイメージが浮かんでこなかった」としてますが、僕はこのアイデアは抜群におもしろいと思いました。
今のサイトを、コミュニティ・バーティカルに生まれ変わらせるわけですよね。今の姿を見るだけでは見誤ると思います。CGMでもっとも難しいのは初期トラフィック＝貢献ユーザーの確保であり、それらをどんなつまらない形であれトラフィックがあれば飛躍的に成功の確率も高まると思います。
しかし、そのアイデアを2億ドル＝235億円もの資金を集めてやろう、というのがすごいですね。壮大なアイデアを実行しようとする人とそれに資金を提供する人の両方がいて初めて成り立ちますが、これはアメリカならではでしょうね。もちろん失敗する可能性も高いと思いますが、数え切れない失敗の中からまったく新しいサービスが生まれ続けているという事実もあるわけです。これからも注目していきたい会社です。
