ノートPCでFOMAを使ってインターネット接続する

最近、諸事情でデータ通信用のPHSカードを解約したのですが、何気に外で通信ができないと困ることが多かったために、もう一度通信できるようにする必要性を感じました（特に宮崎にて。。）。普通ならWILLCOMのデータ通信カードとかにするわけですが、繋げる機会は実際はあまりないため、毎月数千円を払うより、FOMAとノートPCを繋げた方が安いのではないかと思い、少し試してみることにしました。

必要なのはこのケーブルです。ビックカメラで1200円くらいで売ってました。

・FOMAとパソコンでデータ通信 | サービス・機能 | NTTドコモ

次に上記ページのステップに沿って、「通信設定ファイル」「FOMA　PC設定ソフト」などをインストールします。ステップ3で、moperaUかmoperaかという選択をするのですが、moperaUは有料サービス、moperaは無料サービスらしく、ドコモのどのページを読んでも違いが分かりません。無料の方がよいので、moperaを選択します（64Kデータ通信も選択できますので、とりあえず作るだけ作っておきました）。

すると、FOMA経由で「186*99***1#」という謎の電話番号にユーザー名とパスワードが空の状態で「ダイヤルアップ接続の設定」が一つできます。こんなのでいいのか、と思うのですが、そのまま「ダイヤル」をクリックするとあっさり繋がります。

これで、送受信最大384kbpsで接続できました（ちなみにHIGH-SPEED対応端末だと最大3.6Mbpsでの受信も可能なようです）。384kbpsというのは意外と速くて、ADSL並とは言いませんが、PHS64kbpsとは比べ物にならないくらい速く感じます。

しかし、パケットで通信しているとどのくらい料金がかかってるか分からないのは怖いですね。

そんな時のために、このソフトで料金計測することができます。大体の目安のためにパケ・ホーダイに入っている場合の1パケット＝0.021円でどの程度料金がかかるかをリストしてみます。

Yahoo!JAPAN：22円
Gmailトップ：16円（38円）
映画生活トップ：38円（76円）
9通のメール：8円（84円）
Google検索：1円（85円）
Google検索：3円（88円）
※カッコ内は累計

送受信バイト数：525718
パケット数：4186
料金：88円

となります。これが安いのか高いのかよく分からないのですが、ちょっとメールしたり、検索したりするくらいならいいかなという感じがします。しかし、こうやってみるとGoogle検索の安さが際立っていますね。

この方式での難点は、PHSカードならPCカードに差しておけばよいですが、ケーブルを常に持ち歩かなければいけない、ということです。これはかなり面倒な気がしますが、しばらくはバッグに入れて持ち歩こうかなと思います。
