リクルートのHotPepper事業の立ち上げ人が書いた本。わずか4年で売上300億、利益100億を叩きだしたというお化け事業がどのように立ち上げていったかが詳しく描かれており、非常におもしろいだけでなく、勉強にもなる良書です。リクルート的な熱い感動話も盛りだくさんで、まだまだリクルートの社風は健在なんだなと思いました。

なぜか僕の周りにはリクルート出身の人たちが非常に多いのですが、聞いたところによると、平尾氏は一時期楽天オークションの立て直しもやっていたとか。楽天オークションの立ち上げは僕が初めて仕事らしい仕事をした最初のプロジェクトなので、勝手ながら親近感を覚えました。

  • 「大阪は札幌とマーケットも戦略も違うのか。わかった。じゃ、お前の大阪のマーケットの戦略を説明する前に、お前が違うと断言する札幌のマーケットと戦略を、お前が説明してくれ。そのうえで、大阪との違いについて聞こう」
  • 「剣道には、小手・面・胴の3つしかない。戦う相手が変幻自在だから、技も変幻自在なのか？　そうじゃない。相手の攻撃には傾向があって、それに対応する技があるんだ。営業だって一緒だよ」
  • 「マネジメントは要望することだ。自分ができないことを要望できない。変幻自在にやれなんて要望できない。ましてや、変幻自在を教育もできない。だから、型を決めて徹底的に訓練する。剣道が毎日小手100本、面100本、胴100本稽古するように・・・」
  • 「最初は中央集権でやる。やれと言ったら絶対にやれ。でも、やれと言われているからやれと言われたとおりにやるだけのバカになるな。言っておくが、会社とはそんなバカを一生懸命量産する仕組みを考えているものだ」
  • 「なぜやれと言われるのかを考えながらやれ、やれと言われる背景にあるものは何か？　を考えながらやり切れ。そうすればその構造が分かってくる。そして、やがて自分でその構造そのものを創れるようになれ」
