世の中にあふれる嘘の常識を事例に出しながら、なぜそういったダメな議論があふれてしまうのか、そもそもどこがどうダメなのか、なぜそういう罠にはまるのかなどを論理的に解説した本。非常に分かりやすく書いてあるので、すらすらと読めます。

僕は、RSSリーダーやソーシャルブックマークなんかを使って普通より情報収集をしている方だと思うのですが、正直この本にあるようなダメな議論が氾濫しているのを感じます。一方で、マスコミだけを元にしているとネット上にあるような「上質な議論」に触れられないのも事実です（なぜならマスコミはマスに向かっているため深い議論はしづらい）。

玉石混淆なので、非常に弱肉強食だとは思いますが、すごく先端な議論があっておもしろいとは思っています。とはいえ、基本的に、直感でおかしいなと思っても、どうおかしいかじっくり考えたり、わざわざ批判しないでスルーします。自分が上質だと思ったものについてはじっくり考えるようにしてます。でないと時間がいくらあっても足りないので。。

それはさておき、本書は、そんな弱肉強食なネット上での渡り歩き方が分かる良書だと思います。オススメ。

・「本当の○○は」「真の××は」という命題は哲学的な響きがあるためか愛用者が非常に多いようです。しかし「真の豊かさとは何か」「本当の幸せとは何か」という類の問いに答えはありません。仮にあったとしても、それが正しいのか否かを検証することは不可能なため、「確かにこれが本当の幸せだ」と確認することができません。
・データを用いた検証を行う訓練を受けていない人の中には、データによる検証のすべてを無意味に批判するというケースが見受けられます。そのような態度は、議論をつぶすというネガティブな結果しかもたらしません。代替的なデータや改善案の提示が見られないデータ批判に出会った場合には、まずは疑ってかかる必要があるでしょう。
・現実をはじめから「丸ごとそのまま」「総合的」に解釈することなどできないのです。ある現象をその関連事項まで含めて完全に理論化するモデルは、「世界そのもの」しかありません。「世界そのもの」を直接把握できるなら、理論など必要ないでしょう。
