途上国で学校や図書館を建てるなどして識字率向上に取り組む「ルーム・トゥ・リード」を創設者ジョン・ウッドによる半生の自伝。マイクロソフトでエリート街道を走っている最中に突如として辞め、そこで学んだことを元にしながら、くじけたり成功したりしながらNPOを立ち上げていく様子が見て取れます。スピーディーで非常に面白く、泣けます。ただちょっと著者はかっこ良すぎるかなと思ったり。。個人的には、ぐちゃぐちゃになりながら泥臭く立ち上げていく、「「社会を変える」を仕事にする 社会起業家という生き方」の方が（舞台が日本ということを抜きにしても）自然に共感できました。とはいえ、「ルーム・トゥ・リード」の活動はすばらしいので、自分も何かしらできないかなと思いました。
P.S.日曜は雨が降ったり降らなかったりしていましたが、遅い桜がきれいでした。
